Failing Forward: Why no one really knows what they’re doing
Taking the leap in spite of uncertainty
It’s not going to make sense—then all of a sudden, it will.
I’ve have had the privilege to work with many talented, successful business owners and entrepreneurs over the last three years. All of them are people we could look up to, and yet, none of them really knew what they were doing at first.
I say this generally because, sure, they had some things “figured out” in their business, but their real secret was that they were willing to fail and fall forward. They weren’t waiting for the perfect time to start—they just started and figured it out along the way.
You don’t learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over. – Richard Branson
The closer I got to these entrepreneurs, the more I realized they were just like me. They had fears, they were uncertain, they had hobbies—they weren’t “gods among men.” They were just people who were okay with learning through failure, teaching others along the way, and trying to learn as much as they could from everyone around them.
The truth is, no one has a f***ing clue what they’re doing. No one feels absolutely confident that they’re doing the right thing. – Mel Robbins
I think a huge disconnect we have with online business and lifestyle gurus—especially those with hundreds of thousands of followers on social media—is that they’re not accessible to the average person. We put them on pedestals without realizing they’re just like us: humans walking the path of life, figuring out which step to take next when they hit a fork in the road.
So take the leap.
Pursue what you’re passionate about.
Let it consume you.
You’re not as far behind as you think you are.
