I’m an Introvert. Today I Did Something That Terrified Me.
Growth starts where comfort ends
Today, I did something that terrified me.
If you knew me personally, you’d know I’m introverted by nature. I tend to avoid large groups of people. I’ll talk to anyone - and I even enjoy it - but that doesn’t mean I’m comfortable with it.
So here’s what terrified me.
I work as a social media specialist at a company that’s on track to become a billion-dollar brand. Most of what I do revolves around design and advertising and not taking photos of people.
Today, we had a large event. Everyone from the office gathered to eat and celebrate.
I knew someone needed to take photos - people love seeing what’s going on at our company and it does well on our LinkedIn page - but no one else was around to do it.
So, I opened GPT and asked for advice on how to walk up to people and ask for photos without feeling awkward or intrusive.
Surprisingly, it gave solid advice. It told me to focus on mindset - on why I was asking - and reminded me that I wasn’t doing it for myself. I was helping my company, helping tell its story.
It also said something that stuck with me: I’m not alone in this fear.
Most people feel the same way - they just push through it… or don’t.
So, I did.
I grabbed the camera and started asking people for photos. I was nervous. My hands were shaking a little. But I pressed on.
And you know what? People were kind. Some were even nervous themselves.
When I finally sat back down at my desk, I felt something shift.
Not because I did something extraordinary - but because I did something uncomfortable.
“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.”
- Dale Carnegie
I took a step toward breaking down a barrier that’s held me back for a long time.
I know this isn’t everyone’s struggle. Some people thrive in crowds and love being the center of attention. That’s not me.
But someday, I want to speak in front of people - to share ideas and have conversations.
And I know if I don’t take small steps now, I’ll never get there.
Fear doesn’t disappear when you ignore it. It disappears when you face it in small, deliberate acts of courage.
“That which we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do.”
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Practice makes progress, before you know it people will start thinking you are an extrovert.
Love this!
